Google Boutiques.com Launch Party Photos

As if Google couldn't become any more powerful; they now have their hands in the world of fashion with the launch of an amazing site, "Boutiques.com"  You can search ANYTHING and EVERYTHING fashion on this online shopping mecca....trust me, a friend needed purple shoes to wear under her wedding gown...yes, I know it sounds strange, but if you saw the completed look... ok, anyway, we went to Boutiques.com and searched, "dark purple platform heels" and over 20 pairs of shoes matching this exact description showed up, complete with links to where we could make a purchase.  Sweet! My fingers are already beginning to twitch and turn towards the return key on my laptop to 'complete purchase'...multiple purchases actually, that I really cant afford anyway, lol.  Oh well, its always fun to search! :) xxx-SBG

Are you a FAN of Shavonne DeAnn?

Well, I most certainly am, and have been since I saw an amazing video of this designer crashing the past season's Fashion Week.  Shavonne fearlessly paraded models in her latest collection up and down the front area of the Lincoln Center with a huge sign, asking anyone who would listen, "Are you a FAN of SHAVONNE DEANN?!" ...and low and behold, who's attention did she grab?   Non other than the famed June Ambrose who was so impressed with Shavonne's work that she stopped to chat it up with the designer and drop some words of wisdom...and as if this situation couldn't get any better, three of her looks were photographed and featured in New York Magazine as a part of the 25 most stylish folks at Fashion Week. Whewww! This Moore Alumni and Philly girl is making moves!  

This past weekend I had the pleasure of attending Shavonne's first store launch at pop up shop, Boutique 77 on Broad Street. For a limited time the store will feature a few pieces from her Fall collection. ....comfortable tops made of warm fabrics coupled with a sexy twist and cool classic cardigans which are perfect to throw over a little dress w/ leg-warmers and boots (my fav. look of the moment) ...and if you aren't from the Philadelphia area just go HERE to browse and buy these styles and more.  For additional info and to 'become a fan" go HERE.

She Won My Heart... Gretchen Jones

I never liked Gretchen Jones.  I never liked her personality I guess I should say, considering that is what overpowered any feelings I had, whether negative or positive, for her design ethic.  ...and yes, I recognize that this was wrong.  My brain tends to sometimes choose to operate on the side of emotions vs. common sense... Either way, I must say that my thoughts started to shift after the episode where Gretchen thinks her mother didn't come to the "Family Day."  Her slew of tears let me know that she wasn't as tough as she portrayed herself to be...a little brash maybe...a tad critical... ok lets face it, she still was a total b*tch throughout the entire show; but the fact is, she was under a lot of pressure.

Every contestant was under a lot of pressure, and it showed more so in the final episodes as Tim Gunn visited the top 4's homes.  I had no idea Gretchen was in the midst of a bad break up.   ...Now, I know most of you wouldn't consider this heavy at all compared to Mondo fighting being HIV positive, and Andy living on a farm in the middle of nowhere....but I can relate to this girl.  Break ups can sometimes feel like you're dying, to put it plain and simple.  ...Yet Gretchen remained calm and strong, and didn't let her emotions overpower her creative processes (too much).  

She put on an amazing show, and came out on top.  Im definitely, #TEAMGRETCHEN and I don't regret it at all. What do you think? -SBG p.s. Check out StyleSkinny's interview with Gretchen's former Project Runway opponent, Kristen Haskens-Simms

Anthropologie Accessories Only Store To Come

I just found out that Philadelphia based brand, Anthropologie will open an accessories only store on Oct. 29 in Chevy Chase, Maryland. According to WWD half of the stock will consist of shoes, and the other half a mix of "handbags, scarves, belts, costume jewelry, fine jewelry and, for the first time, estate and antique jewelry, including one-of-a-kind brooches and engagement rings." Anthropologie's sister store Free People has always offered an interesting collection of jewelry...many one of a kind pieces from their vintage libraries (shown below).  So to all my DMV folks...happy shopping! You all get this special treat. Let me know what it looks like. :)-SBG

Brown Dolls Rock!

Although I went to a school all my life, where I rarely saw another person that looked like me, that never stopped my parents from showing me the root of who I was, and that what I looked like was beautiful. Every Christmas, Mom searched high and low for dolls that looked like me, and although a difficult task, she often times succeeded.  (I know everyone had a Kenya Doll.  Mine was the medium toned girl, bwahaha.  There were three different shades of that doll. lol)  Either way, I found this cute little site, PlasticLadies, which features dolls of all ethnicities, and if you look closely, the features on each look a tad different which is very cool.
