I finally have a chance to post about the runway show by ARISE Magazine. The African Promise Collective showed on friday night, and as I told you all before, when I found out about this show I was super excited to go see it...but alas, I had no idea who to contact for an invitation. I eventually posted a status update on my facebook account asking if anyone had any sort of information, and was pleasantly surprised when my buddy Todd hit me up with the 'get in' details...NICE.
(He took this photo below)
The show was amazing (and PACKED), to say the least! The lighting was dark and mysterious as green leafy rainforest-like images danced on the walls. The speakers played a mix of rainforest-like sounds (birds, elephants, monkeys) before the show began, which actually was a bit strange to me...I thought the magazine was meant to show all that Africa had to offer, and scratch the notion in people's minds that if you're from Africa, you MUST be from a tribe living in the jungle... hmmm.
Either way the four designers that showed 'did their thing' for sure...but, it was the folks in attendance that truly showed out with interesting cosmetic designs, intricate hair pieces, and outfits of all colors and crazy cool african prints. This was mos def the highlight of F.W. for me...check out the photos below...

I snapped a photo of this woman who was standing behind me in the line to get in.
