For the past two years running I have humbly accepted an invite to the ARISE Magazine runway show during NYFW. This year however, I received the sad news (possibly a rumor?) that the magazine had folded, and therefore there would be no looking forward to the most amazing show of the week. I was/am bummed to say the least, but in the midst of my 'bummed-ness' I came across an AMAZING Kenyan line, SUNO. SUNO was birthed in '08 by Max Osterweis after many years of collecting textiles from the African country.
The coolio fact del dio is that each garment is designed and developed in NYC, but there after, taken to Kenya where it is produced. This allows for a flood of East African influence of Kenya's talent, and authentic construction.
In the photos below from SUNO's showing at fashion week, one may be overwhelmed at the vast amount of mixed graphical prints, many not even resembling african origins...but this s/s 11 season it seems as though SUNO went for a more romantic feel. crazy mixture of prints but smoother less vibrant colors...
Either way, I love this new collection, as I love any printed pieces...and have been inspired to incorporate a few ideas into my little philadelphia home decor. A double sided dotted/striped pillow perhaps...? I must start small...dont want to shock the cat into not recognizing her surroundings as lady fatness is so easily stressed, smh. lol :) stop by in a few, for some 'new girl in an old house' posts. xoxo-SBG
